FAQ

Q: Does Stu’s Quiz Boxes work on an Apple Mac?
A: YES! as long as you install Windows on either Boot Camp or Parallels, it’ll work just fine. There is no native-OSX version of Stu’s Quiz Boxes (although some people have told me it looks a little like an OSX application)  🙂

Q: What versions of Windows will Stu’s Quiz Boxes run on?
A: The program has been successfully tested on Windows 7, Vista, Windows XP and Windows 2000. It may run on Windows 98 but it has not been tested. The minimum and recommended screen resolution to set your display to is 1024×768.

Q: Are there any tricks to installing Stu’s Quiz Boxes?
A: NO! Stu’s Quiz Boxes is completely portable! Just download quizboxessetup.exe from the Download page, run it and select the folder you’d like to install it into. You can even tell it to install to a USB stick. A shortcut will appear on the Desktop when installation is complete.

Q: Can you run Stu’s Quiz Boxes from a Fileserver, on multiple PCs?
A: Yes you can! When you run quizboxessetup.exe, select the server folder path (the share) you’d like to install to. Then on each computer, run the SetupShortcut.exe that you’ll find in the QuizBoxes folder to place a shortcut on the desktop.  Multiple PCs can run the same or different Quiz Boxes games at the same time in this configuration. You can even edit multiple quiz files at the same time.

Q: In a server-based installation, can you make it so certain users cannot modify quiz files?
A: Yes. As long as your server allows for different groups with different security levels, you can give all users Read-only access to the whole QuizBoxes folder structure, and give a QuizBoxesEditors (for example) group write/modify access to the QuizBoxes\quizzes and QuizBoxes\skins folders. Of course, this will not stop them from creating their own quiz files in their own folders.

Q: Instead of playing the full thirty (30) questions for a game, is it possible to play a shorter game with less questions?
A: YES!  You can choose to play the Full Game (six categories), or a game of Twenty Questions (four categories), or a Quickie (two categories). The game simply “hides” some of the categories so they are not in play.

Q: How come Stu’s Quiz Boxes is free? There are no nags, no ads and no crippled features. Why? This is NOT normal!
A: I’m the kind of guy that believes that sharing skills, knowledge and resources will take not just you somewhere, but also the people around you. I hate adware, so I won’t impose that on anybody. I don’t even have ads on my website (although WordPress.com, my website host, may add them sometimes).  Because this program is mainly for educational use, I’m happy to give it away. Now having said all that, if you do get a lot of benefit from my program and you’d like to see me continue to develop it, you could always donate a little something to the cause. Just click Donate on the right. 🙂

Q: How do teams playing Stu’s Quiz Boxes buzz in their answers if there are no buzzers?
A: Because it’s mainly a classroom activity, the first person that raises their hand has “buzzed” in first. I’m sure there are a lot of inventive people out there who will come up with other ideas such as different percussion instruments for each team. If your school is lucky enough to have 1:1 computers or laptops, you might want to consider my Virtual Clickers software called “Student Response Network“. It’s not free, but it’s way more affordable that real clickers – and it includes a remote buzzer solution designed specificially for Stu’s Quiz Boxes. Feel free to share any other ideas you have in the comments below.

Q: I’m trying the type an ampersand (&) into a question (or and answer) in the Quiz Boxes Question Editor and it’s showing up as an underscore ( _ ) when the question (or answer) is displayed.  Why? And how do I include an ampersand?
A: Unfortunately, an ampersand means something else to the programming language I’m using. To insert an ampersand in a question (or an answer), type two ampersands, one after the other. eg. Simon && Garfunkel.

Q: Why can’t you move the Quiz Boxes window around on the screen?
A: Because you can’t. It’s free. You can’t have everything.  🙂

Do you have any other questions? Ask them in the comments section below.

This is exactly what I have been looking for – I have tried to play Jeopardy manually with my students without much success and have search far and wide for just this sort of programme. However, when running it, I can’t the Final Jeopardy answer to reveal on the two provided quizzes I’ve tried and there is assumes that the team with the highest score going into Final Jeopardy has won before the scores can be changed to reflect the outcome. Any help?

Hi Dave. You’ve found a little glitch which I’ll be fixing today. There is a workaround. When you play Final Jeopardy, Don’t click Reveal Answer. Instead, mark each team’s answer with the ticks and crosses. If one team gets a tick, the answer will be displayed. I’ll fix and make the new version available shortly. I also discovered a wrong answer in the supplied Geography quiz that I need to fix. Other than that, it’s looking good. 🙂

v2.0.0.2 has just been released to fix a minor glitch with Final Jeopardy. Thanks for finding and reporting it Dave!

You’re welcome!

And in the Geography quiz, would that be the answer that said Cairo was the capital of Arabia?

19 08 2007

LOL! Yes, that happened when I was testing the Question Editor. It originally was Egypt. I’ve fixed that in the new download. FInal Jeopardy now works properly either way – marking answers before or after revealing the answer. Hope you like it!

Many thanks for your hard work. I teach continuing education courses at our local university. The average age of the students is 60. Most enter the classroom with trepidation but after their first encounter with Jeopardy they relax and begin to enjoy themselves.versity. Just wanted to let you know we appreciate the program.

That’s great Carol-Lynn! If you think some of the quizzes you create are worth sharing, just send them through! 🙂

Just wondering what the maximum number of contestants/teams your Jeopardy game supports.

Thanks,

Hi JC. Jeopardy supports from 2 to 6 teams – i.e. it can keep score for up to 6 teams.

25 09 2007
JC

Thanks … installed it on my home system … very well done. Unfortunately, with classes bursting at the seams (around 38 students per class), my colleagues and I like to run 10 teams. I currently use a powerpoint based jeopardy, but it pales in comparison to the design and features in your program. You might consider including an option to add an additional “Return to Board” button on each question screen that allows the operator to return to the main board without proceeding to the answer screen and, in addition, does not remove the question that was just selected from the main board. I like to give other teams a chance to answer the same question if it is misssed by the previous team. Just a thought anyway :).

Thanks for taking the time to create such a great teacher tool and for the quick response.

JC

25 09 2007
jeopardygame

Thanks JC – Auto-scoring for 10 teams is not a simple change unfortunately. The original version of this only allowed for 4 teams, so this is an improvement to 6 – which is twice the actual gameshow’s three. 🙂

An interesting concept to not “waste” a question, but in reality, the way Jeopardy is played is if one team answers wrong, they get the amount deducted from their score and any other team can then jump in with an answer, so there should be no need for this feature.

Glad you like it! I look forward to seeing your shared Quiz files! 🙂

Is there a way to change the font size to make longer questions fit on the screen?

27 09 2007
jeopardygame

Hi ck. Firstly, you need to make sure your Display Settings in Windows are set to Small Fonts rather than Large Fonts. You’ll tell the difference if you have Large Fonts because many things won’t fit properly on the screen – it’s not the default setting in Windows anyway.

Then, make sure you type your questions NOT in all UPPER CASE as UPPER CASE letters take a lot more space on the screen. Beyond that, there is space for a quite long question, for example, you could ask a question as long as:

“Part of the solar system includes a comet which last visited our planet in 1986 and won’t be back until 2062. What is its name?”

Is there really a need for a longer question?

I’m bummed that the .exe file won’t run on my iBook G4. Did I do something wrong?

4 10 2007
paralleldivergence

Hi Heather – yes, you didn’t read FAQ #1. Jeopardy is a Windows-only program. To run it on a Mac, you need to install Windows. With a G4 iBook, you would need an emulator like RealPC or VirtualPC I’m afraid.

How would you project this using a projector. Swap primary and secondary monitors?

9 10 2007
paralleldivergence

Hi Phillip,

Not sure I follow. It’s expected in a classroom or hall that you’d use a projector. Are you asking whether you should extend your desktop across your local monitor and the projector or mirror them, I would say mirror them – make the projector show the same ask your PC or laptop monitor. If you don;t have the luxury of an interactive whiteboard or tablet, you have to drive the game from the computer. Hope that helps.

Stu,

The program looks great. I am a social studies teacher at a high school and want to use it to review. However, when I download and install it, it won’t complete the installation. It claims that I need to log on as an administrator, but I’m already logged on as one. I’ve also closed out of all other programs. Can you help me?

Thanks

jeopardygame

Hi Bergweave!

Interesting. Firstly verify that you are logged on as an administrator. What happens if you right-click on the Start button in Windows? Does it show you an option that says “Open All Users”? If yes, you are an admin. If no, you are not. You’ll need network admin help to sort that out.

If you clearly are an admin, there it is likely that something is installed and running resident on your PC which uses one of the same controls as Jeopardy does. At the bottom-right in the system tray (next to the time), there are a bunch of icons. Right click on each and choose Exit if available to close those down temporarily, then try Setup again. If it works, after installation, just reboot to get all those icons back and all should be just fine. Please let me know how you go.

Hi DJ,

You mean the “Stu’s Double Jeopardy” title? No you can’t make that disappear or change to something else. But you can create your own custom skin that puts your specific branding/titling all over the game board. There are specific instructions for how to create your own skins at this site.

Stu,

Would it be possible to add the feature of randomizing the questions so they don’t come up under the same dollar amount each time?

I have a friend who is using your program as a tool with a study group at her school, and she finds that they seem to remember the answers more by the location of the question than the question itself.

Thanks for your time and the excellent product you have made. Keep up the good work.

Vance

5 11 2007
paralleldivergence

Hi Vance,

There’s no automatic option of randomizing the order of the questions. Remember, the easier ones are meant to be the lowere dollar values and the harder questions the higher amounts. Pleus, they are meant to be categorized, therefore, randomizing would put the whole feel of a game out of whack. The aim is to build new quiz files and not regularly replay the same games with the same group of students.

Glad you like my version of Jeopardy!

Hi, thank you for the wonderful program. It’s really well designed. I had a question. Is there anyway for the program to be run in “full screen mode”? Currently it is pretty large but does not take up the full screen so I was wondering if there was anyway for that to be acheived?

Thank you.

Hello Ali! Glad you like it. Unfortunately, the screen cannot be “maximized”. It is designed for 1024 x 768 only, so if you set your screen to that it should almost fill the whole thing. Best I can do for now…. 🙂

Hi Stu,
What a brilliant program you’ve designed! I wanna use it for the youth at my church to do Bible quiz contests. I’m done with the quizzes files but I was trying to follow the instructions on your page on how to create your own skin but for some reasons that doesn’t seem to work for me… Also is there a possibility that i can add the teams’ name instead of the built-in “team1”, “team2″….that are in there? Once again thank you for your help and may God continue to pour his blessings abundantly on you and your family.

Thank you.

Hey Billy. Glad you like it. We haven’t had any Bible quizzes submitted, so please share them if you think others would like them and I’ll host them here and credit you for their creation (no pun intended!) 🙂

I see from the other posting that you’ve worked out the custom skin, so that’s great. Sadly, at this stage, you’re stuck with Team 1,Team 2 etc as the team names. Can’t get everything in what really is the first version of this… 🙂

Thanks for the kind blessings. Hope the game show goes down well for you.

Hi Stu,
I teach Sat prep and I’m always looking for ways to spice up teaching to the test. I love your game for teaching vocabulary. It is really easy to make the games. Hi Stu,
I’m working on this for a class at college designed for pre-service teachers. I downloaded the create your own file, but it’s not complete. Category 1-6 appear at the top, yet the playing screen is smaller than the heading with the categories in it. Also, when I get to questions 4 and 5 ($800 and $1000), the screen runs out and there is just white. Did the file not download correctly? I have Windows Vista. Any info would be helpful. Thanks!

Also, when I went to save my changes, I could not close down. There was no way for me to exit so I had to shut off my computer and restart it. I’m wary to open the file again.
Thanks again!

Hi Mimi. Quizboxes is designed to be run with a projector at 1024×768 or better and with Display Font Size set to Smaller (100%) – not MEDIUM or LARGER in Display Settings in Control Panel. If you have set your font size to greater than 100%, this is the problem you will see.

Hi Mary,

The program works fine on Vista – I’ve been using it with Vista for about 6 months now. I suspect you have Large Fonts turned on in Windows display settings. You should set it to Small or Normal fonts (ask your tech support people to help you find this setting – nothing to do with Jeopardy).

I’d also suggest you try it on another PC. No one has reported the symptoms you describe and the program has been downloaded many thousands of times.

Hi,
Is there any way to add my Jeopary Quiz to a website. I created it for a grade 8 science assignment and handed it in on a CD but there are too many restrictions on our school computers and my teacher couldn’t open the file?
I don’t want to flunk.

Thanks,

22 04 2008
jeopardygame

Hi Conner. The actual contents of your saved Jeopardy quiz file can be read in Notepad, so you can see all the questions and answers. But to play the game and see it as it’s meant to be seen, you must download and install the Jeopardy game itself from this website. Once installed, the quiz you created can be opened from any location, a hard disk, a USB stick, a CD ROM.

Hope that makes sense. Good luck with your assignment. If you think it’s good, email it to me and I’ll put it up on the site with credit to you. That might be worth some extra marks!

Hi Stu,
I’m about to start using Jeopardy with some Yr 5/6 students – they will be making up the questions first (they are learning how to search the www for info) prior to making their own quiz (in teams). Looking at the previous question from Conner…if my students’ parents wish to view the quiz, am I correct in that they will have to download ‘Jeopardy’ first….then upload their child’s quiz from a CD ROM or USB stick?

Many thanks…..maybe I could send the best one for you to upload onto your site?!

27 04 2008
jeopardygame

Hi Sharon.
If your students create a Jeopardy Game, it’s just ends up a text file and for it to come to life as a game, you must have the Jeopardy program installed on a Windows PC. The game is freely available to anybody, so parents can download and install it from this site. You can then choose to email the game text file as an attachment to parents or have them download it from your school website – if you upload it there first and tell parents the URL. Alternatively, I’m happy to host it here if you think it’s a game other schools could use. Then anyone can download it and use it in the Jeopardy program. Hope that helps.

I’m having the same problem as Bergweave above in installing the program. I followed your directions and closed down all other program and deactivated the icons at the lower-right of the screen. I’m also logged in as an administrator.

Thank you…I’m looking forward to using the program for a class next week.

7 05 2008
jeopardygame

Hi Jay,

If you are running on Vista, right-click the Jeopardy installer and choose Run As Administrator. If you are on XP, then you really need to make sure you don’t have another program running which uses the same controls as Jeopardy. Follow the advice I gave to Bergweave as he got it to work. Alternatively, try this:
Start Windows. When Windows starts to load, hold down the left-Shift key all the way until the PC starts up fully to the logon screen. Then logon as Administrator and try the install again. If it works, shutdown and restart normally. Holding down shift on startup tells Windows not to load all the junk that your PC might be loading which might be clashing with the install.

First, I think this is a wonderful tool. I want to use it so badly, however, I work for a school that the administration rights belong to the board, and getting them out to install a software is like months of waiting. Is there a reason you have to be an administrator to be able to download this file? Or are you just trying to make people like me crazy? 🙂

20 08 2008
jeopardygame

Hi spriley,

The setup program that needs to be run can only be run when logged on as an administrator of the local computer. That is because it needs to install and register support files required by the Windows operating system to allow it to run the program. This is the case for most Windows programs that need installation. I understand the security concerns of the board, but is there no local computer support person available to your school to assist with this? I’m sure they would have the right access level.

24 08 2008

Ok Stu –
I have it running and I am making jeopardy games. Next question… Is there anyway to insert symbols into the questions or answers. I made a math game, but I couldn’t put exponents or a division sign in. I teach math and that would be great! Thanks.

24 08 2008
Matthew

How do you insert a picture & an audio file?

24 08 2008
jeopardygame

Hi spriley,

The question files use the Arial font. Arial does include some math symbols. To find them, click the Windows Start button, then select Run and type CHARMAP and press Enter. In the window that appears, select Arial at the top and look through the grid.

On the bottom line of the first page is the division sign. There are more math symbols spread throughout the grid.

Double-click on the ones you want and they will go into the box to copy. Then click the Copy button. Go back to the jeopardy Question Editor and Ctrl-V to paste them in. You can Ctrl-X (Cut) and Ctrl-V (Paste) to put them where you want them. If you can’t get exactly what you want, you could always make the question an image (JPG file). Hope that helps.

24 08 2008
jeopardygame

Hi Matthew,

For audio or video, your question file must be in a folder on its own. In that folder you place JPG files and/or MP3 files specifically named. Say you wanted the $600 question in the second category to have BOTH an image and audio. You would need to place a J2-3.MP3 AND a J2-3.JPG file in the same folder as the question file.

The only thing is, in order to see the Play button for your audio file, you must make your image file no larger than say 350 pixels wide by 400 high.

Hope that makes sense.

: Does Stu’s Double Jeopardy work on an Apple Mac?
A: YES! as long as you install Windows on either Boot Camp or Parallels, it’ll work just fine. There is no native-OSX version of Stu’s Double Jeopardy (although some people have told me it looks a little like an OSX application)

I see this answer; however, don’t know what Boot Camp or Parallels is and how to install Windows on that. HELP???

Hi Madge,

As long as you have OSX 10.5 (Leopard) on an Intel-based Mac, then you can use Boot Camp which is built into it to install a Windows partition on your Mac. If you don’t know what it is, then it’s probably not going to be easy for you.

Have a read of Apple FAQ on Boot Camp:

http://support.apple.com/kb/HT1656

It may be asier to just find a Windows PC to run this on.

It seems to be working with the software from your site and Virtual PC. I am able to open the game and access the quizzes.

Have even begun to develop some quizzes for nurses in newborn intensive care.

Now my problem is, that the resolution must be slightly off, as when I am creating the quizzes, I can’t quite see the bottom of the screen to hit the save button.

Sorry to be such a technology newbie. However this will be a GREAT tool for our group who is studying for certification.

15 09 2008

Hi Madge,

You need to make sure of two things:

1. The Virtual PC session MUST be set to at least 1024×768 display size
2. You do not have Large Fonts selected in Display Settings in Windows.

I’m confused though. The Save button on the Question Editor is at the top-left – not the bottom.

I love your program.
However, isn’t it ironic that the program is called “Stu’s Double Jeopardy!” yet the double jeopardy round isn’t a feature?

18 09 2008
jeopardygame

Hey John. You’re the first person to pick up on that… 🙂

The reason it’s called “Double Jeopardy” is because the dollar values on the board are the same as in the double jeopardy round. $200 to $1000 as opposed to $100 to $500. Hope that clears it up. 😉

Glad you like the program.

19 09 2008
John

haha

Do you ever plan on making it a feature?

20 09 2008
jeopardygame

I may add the option for a second round, but since most of the users of the program are classrooms, the time required for a second round (and the need to create another question file), mean that it’s unlikely to be used. The latest requests had been to make the game shorter – not longer. That’s why you can now choose to play 20Qs or just 10Qs – plus Final Jeopardy.

My intention was never to duplicate exactly the TV Show, just to make an easily and highly customisable gamehow emulator. I hope I’ve achieved that.

David Ford

Stu,

First off this is fantastic software, I play game shows with my family every thanksgiving and christmas and I’ve shied away from Jeopardy because of how tough it was to run with just a whiteboard and no visual clues.

A couple of questions.

1.) I understand that the primary use of this program was in the classroom, but I plan on playing a full two round game. Is there a way to change the dollar amounts to the 400, 800, 1200, 1600, and 2000?

2.) Secondly, considering that I do want to play a two round game, is there a way to carry the scores over from the first round…or is there a way to manually enter scores before a game is played?

I really appreciate the feedback and thanks for putting this amazing software out there for the hard working teachers of the world and game show nuts like myself!

31 10 2008
jeopardygame

Hi David! Glad you’re liking my little interpretation of this great gameshow.

1) Stu’s Double Jeopardy is so named because it’s the second round, plus Final Jeopardy. You can only play one round to constitute a “game”. This is because it’s really designed for a classroom and the duration would just be too long for a second round – plus the fact that you’d need to make another set of questions!

2) As individual games, there’s no option to carry over scores. You can at anytime that you are on a question or answer panel, adjust the scores of each team by clicking the check mark or the cross of each score, but you can only adjust them by the dollar amount of the question selected.

I may consider adding the option of two rounds in a future release.

Carolyn Wade

I love this program! I’d hoped to use it for a presentation I’ve been working on for a couple of weeks, but I only started copying the questions from my MSWord document into the question file this afternoon. You asked how long does a question need to be? Well, mine need to be pretty long–I’m trying to ask a bunch of trial lawyers questions about evidence, so the questions have to have more detail than the usual quizzes have.

Since the program is based on PowerPoint, I thought I’d be able to adjust the fonts, but I can’t. I thought I could maybe adjust the margins, but I can’t. Do I have to give up using this beautiful program and go back to a much more basic PowerPoint?

jeopardygame

Hi Carolyn,

Stu’s Double Jeopardy is NOT based on Powerpoint. It’s a self-contained application. You *can* have a longer question if you really want one, but you will have to create it and save it as an image file (JPG). Have a read of this page:

Include Images in your Quizzes: Step by Step

See the first question? It’s a photo of Will Smith from one of his movies. This image can contain anything – even text! So here’s what you do:

1. Read and understand the whole process of including images in questions as detailed at that page.

2. Open say Powerpoint and type in your question the way you’d like it to look (font, size etc – make it more wide than tall.

3. Copy the whole PPT window to the clipboard by pressing Alt-PrintScreen

4. Open your favorite image editing program – I use IrfanView, but you can use GIMP or Photoshop or whatever. Paste that screen shot into a new image.

5. Crop the image to 860 wide by 400 high (if you can’t quite get this size, Resize the image to 860×400)

6. Save the image with the appropriate name for the desired question as per the instructions on the other page.

Hey presto!

hi stu,

wonderful extraordinary and all the good comments on it.
i have a question. could you supply me with the original skin? i seem to have erased it or something and can’t find it separately to download it. i’m looking for the one where it says jeopardy in the back and the blue squares in front, just like the tv show. i could always re-install but i can’t reallt remember what i did to make it work.

thanks so much and all the best!

Hi Mona.
Not sure which skin you are talking about. I’ve never produced a skin that is like the actual TV show because of copyright concerns. If someone wants to make one, I’ll host it here for download, but I won’t be making one.

The default skin supplied with the game looks like the one shown here:

Glad you like it.

I just finished creating a game for my Introduction to Canadian Law class and just realized that there’s no way my college is going to allow me to install your software on their network. Question of security.
Is there anyway I can run the quiz off of your site? I can access the internet in realtime in class and it comes up on the projection screen.
Thanks for a great product, even if I never get to use it with my class!

25 11 2008
jeopardygame

Hi JoAnne,

Sorry to hear of your network restrictions. Jeopardy is a Windows application so it’s not going to run from an internet site. Perhaps all is not lost. You don’t need it to be installed on the college network, it could just get installed on the local PC or notebook that you’ll use with your projector. Would that be possible?

Alternatively, if you have your own notebook, why not use that? Just plug it into the projector.

25 11 2008
JoAnne

Hi Stu!

Thanks for the quick response! Using my laptop was my plan B. The computer that is plugged into the projector is a networked computer owned by the College. But there is provision for a teacher to plug in their own laptop. Unfortunately my laptop is an old clunker – at least I have a week to experiment.

Thanks again for a great program. (I’ll be uploading my quiz soon – and making more!)

Hey chambonito! Nice to see you back. Glad you like v3! Movie clips are on the drawing board, but the reality is most people probably wouldn’t use them because of the time needed to make the videos in the first place – unless of course, you “borrowed” them from YouTube. 🙂

Here’s a sneak preview of the next big feature.

In the Question Editor, there’ll be a new Print button and it will print in a nice grid on a single page all the ANSWERS to the questions to help the M.C. How’s that sound?

Fantastic. Borrowing from youtube would definatly be a plus..:)

This is a really neat and realistic jeopardy game. I wanted to make a Jeopardy game for the youth at New Years and this will be perfect, expect that it doesnt seem to work with russian characters. Is there any way to put in the titles and questions with non-english characters? When I try to copy and paste russian titles, it shows up as question marks instead. When I type in the titles in russian, it shows up as gibberish. I also tried to change the titles using notepad, but to save the russian titles I have to change encoding from ANSI to Unicode when saving. When I change the encoding type, it will not open in jeopardy. Please let me know if there is any way around this, -besides converting the questions to pictures, Thanks!!

2 12 2008
jeopardygame

Hi Raimond,

Basically in my version of Jeopardy, you get to use any of the characters in the ARIAL font which is what is currently hardcoded into the program. If you go Start…Run…Charmap and press Enter on Windows XP, or in Vista if you click the Windows button and type Charmap into the Search boxt and press Enter, you’ll see all the characters available to you. Change the font to Arial and that’s what you can use.

A future version may offer the option to select different fonts for the question/answer panels, but it’s not there now. You’ve already discovered the only workaround… 🙂

Hi Carolyn,

Yes, you can have audio (MP3) and/or an image on any question in any category (including Final Jeopardy!). You really should download the sample Audio-Visual Quiz to see how to put it together:

Quiz: Audio Visual Trivia

Let me know if you are still stuck.

I tried a sample one of these the other day and the kids loved it. Thanks! One question – is there a way to format the category titles larger so they show up better on LCD projector image? Thanks again!

Hi Jerry! Glad they liked it. To make the Category titles larger, just run your mouse over them, or if you are on an IWB, just click each one. Watch the video here for a better understanding of what it does:

How do you get Stu’s Double Jeopardy to download onto a MAC?
I have not been successful.

26 01 2009
paralleldivergence

Hi JC,

Jeopardy will download just fine to a Mac, but will it run?

The first question at the top says it all. Stu’s Double Jeopardy is a Windows program, not an OSX program. To run it on a Mac, your Mac must be running Windows. The only way to run Windows on a Mac is using Bootcamp which is part of OSX 10.5 and later or by purchasing a VM application like Parallels to allow Windows to run inside OSX. If you haven’t got Windows running on your Mac now, then Jeopardy isn’t going to work.

31 01 2009
Monica

I just was curious to know why there isn’t the normal first round of jeopardy before the double jeopardy round. For the what I am using the program for, it would be nice to have the extra round. Thanks for your work!

31 01 2009
paralleldivergence

Hi Monica. The main intention of this program is for use in classrooms. There’s probably not enough time in a normal school day to devote to two full rounds of Jeopardy – i.e. 60 questions plus Final Jeopardy, so I halved it deliberately. As stated elsewhere, I never set out to recreate exactly the Jeopardy TV Show. There are already such products available (usually paid for). What I’ve put together is pretty unique. It’s unlikely that I’ll add a first round any time soon, I’ve got other ideas I see as being more important.

Stu,
Amazing Product – all of your efforts are not going unnoticed. Game works flawlessly. One question, that may have been answered on previous pages/posts/etc. Is it possible to change the .wav file audio of wrong answers, correct answers, etc – if so, where is the best place to get “as close to authentic” jeopardy sound effects without breaking copyright laws?
Also what is that figure on your jeopardy skin – scaring me to death!
Thanks again for all the efforts.
ER from NJ

25 02 2009
paralleldivergence

Hi Eric.

Pleased you like it. You can change all the sounds used in Jeopardy, they live in the sounds folder and they are all MP3 files, not WAVs. I know of no place where there is the original game sounds for right and wrong, but this site has some sounds from the game: http://www.raritanval.edu/departments/busadmin/GameShow_Jeopardy%20Sounds.html – I cannot comment on legality. What’s the figure? It’s an image from Autodesk’s brilliant 3D Maya application. I just happen to like it… 🙂

Hi Tennis Gal. You can change all of the images in Stu’s Double Jeopardy. By doing so, you are creating a Skin. Here are the step-by-step instructions: https://jeopardygame.wordpress.com/2009/02/15/create-your-own-custom-skins-the-easy-way/

22 04 2009
BB

I know this application is free, but I have two requests for any future versions. One has been mentioned a few times already: full screen. Seeing the desktop around the edges of the game is distracting, especially when viewing it from a projector in a classroom.

My other request is that there be some sort of timer. Sometimes we misjudge the ability of the students to answer some questions and none of them know the answers. In that case, we have to have an external timer. It would be nice to have that integrated into the game itself, if at all possible. Thanks, great game!

23 04 2009
paralleldivergence

Hi BB, are you running at 1024×768 or a higher resolution? I’ll look to add a plain backdrop to fill the screen, but it will always look best at 1024×768. I’ve been thinking about timers. You’d need one from the point then the question is displayed, and then restart it when a person or team “buzzes-in”, giving them onl a finite time to answer, and if they are wrong, restart the timer again, and if another team buzzes in restart it again.

Without buzzers embedded in the game, resetting the timer would have to be a manual task. It’s easier for the MC to judge when too much time has elapsed and keep the game moving. If you have a suggestion about how timers could be effectively included, I’m all ears.

21 04 2010
Randy M.

I too have the same question about timers. I currently use a Promethian board and have created a Jeopardy game for reviewing for tests with my students. I divide them up into groups and instead of the groups “buzzing” in, I have a countdown timer. When time runs out, they must hold up their group answer on the small whiteboards I provide each team. This whole concept keeps everyone involved and allows all the teams to participate at once. Each team that gets a correct answer, gets points.

I am trying your Stu’s Quiz for the first time this week. So far it looks great, just wish there was a timer.

22 04 2010
paralleldivergence

Hi Randy M. The method of play you are using would add another dimension to the game, and that’s a good thing. I do have a timer function included for the next release later in the year. I have no budget for development, it happens when I get time and usually there’s a new release once per year. Glad you like it otherwise.

19 05 2009
jim boswell

how do i shrink the size of the game to fit on my screen. When I use a projector the board is too large for my screen

19 05 2009
paralleldivergence

Hi Jim. Your screen resolution must be set to 1024 x 768. I assume you are either running at 800 x 600 or you do have 1024 x 768 but you have Large Fonts turned on in Windows display settings. Click on the Display tab, then Advanced and change it to Small Fonts.

26 05 2009
BB

Hey, I know your program is free and I appreciate it immensely. I also know you’re very proud of it, as you should be, but every time I play it with my students, they ask “Who is Stu?” Is there any way that you could put the huge Stu’s Double Jeopardy title somewhere less-obtrusive than on the top of the screen in super-huge letters? I’m a teacher, so I don’t have a lot of money, but what would it cost for that to happen, along with getting the game to show fullscreen (no matter the resolution)? It’s a VERY great tool in teaching, and the students love it a lot.

26 05 2009
paralleldivergence

Hi BB. Tell them “Stu” is the guy that developed the program, and when they develop something, they have every right to put their own name onto it, especially if they choose to give it away for free. I have no desire to charge for Jeopardy to make a “no-name” version because as soon as I do that, I violate the terms of Sony’s copyright (like several other commercial Jeopardy program producers have done).

Full screen at any resolution is a function I am looking at for v4, due out later this year, it will involve the slight loss of image resolution and quality and the Jeopardy forms are scaled. For now, drop your screen to 1024 x 768. The next version will also have a plain backdrop to hide desktop icons in the background.

I’m pleased the students like it.

24 07 2009
murfsturf

I am very excited about using this program in my classroom. Thank you for creating it.

I am able to copy the game onto my thumb drive and it works fine, but when I copy it to a cd, I can access the quizzes but not my skins.

I’ve checked that all the picture files are present but the skins won’t change.

24 07 2009
paralleldivergence

While the Jeopardy game will run from a CD, you cannot change skins because changing skins requires the ability to write the changes to the Jeopardy\skins folder and you can’t do that on a CD as it is a read-only device. Use a USB stick.

12 10 2009
Larry

Hey Stu,

Thanks for making this great tool.

I was having a major issue when I tried to switch skins. I go to the skins dropdown list at the top of the game and select one of the two that are pre-installed (Harry Potter or Sydney) and then the game board seems like it freezes. This happened on both computers before I figured out that you have to double click on the name of the skin. I just thought I would throw this out there in case anyone else is making this mistake.

12 10 2009
paralleldivergence

Hi Larry,

Yes, it is a double-click that’s required to change the skin.

Hi there,
I have downloaded the software twice now, but the skinbuilder folder does not have the required “MakeQuizBoxesSkin” in it. Only the resources folder (which seems to be empty) and the ReadMeFirst which will not open.

What am I doing wrong????

Until I tried to change my skin, everything was going swimmingly 🙂

21 11 2009
paralleldivergence

Hi Margaret.

You have a QuizBoxes folder, yes? In it, you have a Skinbuilder folder. In that folder should be a MakeQuizBoxesSkin file. If it’s not there, you either moved it or you deleted it. Easiest fix is to redownload QuizBoxes from this site and extract it back to the same QuizBoxes folder. It will replace all missing files. The follow the steps on the webpage – how to create your own skin.

Ian Woods

Hi
Just installed and run the game on the new NSW DER laptops. Unfortunately, I can’t see the bottom of the screen. All the 1000 point questions are hidden below the bottom of the screen. I used to be able to set a larger screen size so that I could scroll around using the mouse, but since the student roll-out of the laptops all ours have been re-imaged and I no longer have that option. Very frustrating! Any suggestions?

23 11 2009
paralleldivergence

Hi Ian, QuizBoxes REQUIRES a 1024×768 screen minimum. To successfully be able to use it on a netbook with a 600 pixel or lower screen, you need to plug in an EXTERNAL monitor or data projector. Then it will work just fine.

Great site. I do have a feature request–namely to be able to add movies to a question. I do lots of teaching and have been using a html based system for questions to allow movies. However, your program is much better and have started to play with it, but some of the uses for it would require adding .avi movies to the file.

Just downloaded and can’t wait to invent some of my own. One problem that i have come across is that I can’t close your preloaded quizzes? Is there a close button that I am not aware of? HI Stu – great program!

I am using this for the first time for a training and I only have 30 minutes. I have no idea at what speed the group will get through the questions. I want them to have to answer the final question even if we don’t get through the other questions. Is there anyway to jump to the final question part way through the game? (It would be nice for testing skins as well – I changed the graphics a few times and I keep having to jump through all the questions to see what the final screen will look like).

Thanks!

25 02 2010
paralleldivergence

Hi Deborah. Glad you like it. When you start the program, check the options on the first window. You can play a full game – 30 Qs, or you can play Twenty Q’s (4 categories instead of the normal 6), or you can play Quickie – 10 Qs (2 categories). Each of these include the final question.

25 02 2010
Deborah

Well I WANT to do all the questions if I can. But just wondering if I were to run out of time could I jump ahead. I did see the option to have less questions but that’s not quite what I was looking for.

Sure… if your sentences are short enough. 🙂 Otherwise, make your question a JPEG IMAGE by following the instructions here: http://quizboxes.com/2008/08/10/include-images-in-your-quizzes-step-by-step/

Hello Stu,
Seem’s like you got a pretty good product here with a lot of interest! I downloaded and tried to created questions and answers using Ukrainian fonts (for Ukrainian language class instruction) but was unable to get them to apear properly. Does this program support other language fonts other that English?

Thanks for the help.

Hi Matviy, The current version, v4.1 does not support non-Roman-script languages as it is based on the standard Arial font. I have slated for the next major release later this year a language-independent version which will allow for all aspects of the program to be translated by the user to whatever language – that’s the intention anyway, I’m no linguistics expert. 🙂

I don’t know if I’m missing a feature, but I’ve scanned the FAQ page and the articles…

I have a LOT of questions in mind and was wondering if there’s someway to get the program to randomize categories? Or, if I’m able to create more than 6 categories? Or perhaps the ability to assign multiple questions within a prize value! E.g. Category 1 has 12 questions worth $200 the program pulls at random. Can I just edit the question file by following the syntax and just adding Category 7/Questions/Answers, Category 8 etc…? I’m hoping I won’t have to create 20+ quiz files 😦 That’d be a little bothersome to “randomly” pick “Question list 32”, y’know?

I LOVE THIS PROGRAM and
Thanks

Hi bikeking8. Here are your answers:
1. No.
2. No.
3. No.
4. You can edit the question file using Notepad, but you cannot exceed its limits of 6 categories and 5 questions per category.
5. It would also be great if Microsoft Word could type up my documents for me without me doing anything, but it doesn’t.
Glad you like it for what it can do. 🙂

Hello,

I have been working at home using Stu’s Quiz Boxes to create some Review games for my class. I wanted to bring the quizzes I saved into my classroom. I tried e-mailing the game as an attachment and the game was blocked by the firewall at my school. Now I am trying to load the game on my USB drive and all that seems to copy is the shortcut of the game without the application files that actually run it. I know my school blocks any downloads. How can I load the download plus any apps needed to run the Jeopardy game on my USB drive so I can bring it in my class and just use the USB and be ready to play the game? Thanks for any help you can give.

Elizabeth Zeiss

7 09 2010
paralleldivergence

Hi Elizabeth. The icon on your desktop is just a shortcut to the QuizBoxes program in the QuizBoxes folder. So you need to not copy the shortcut, but copy the folder. Do this:

Right-click on the shortcut and choose Properties. Take note of what it says in the START IN box – this is where QuizBoxes is installed. Normally, it is in C:\QuizBoxes folder. So what you then do is open My Computer (or Computer in Windows 7), open local disk C: and find the QuizBoxes folder. Don’t open it. Plug in your USB stick and wait a bit for it to mount.
Right-click on the QuizBoxes folder and choose Send To…Removable Disk (x:).

When it’s finished, QB will be on the USB stick. Check it by opening it up in My Computer. Finally, take the stick to school, open the USB stick, open the QuizBoxes folder and double click the QuizBoxes program to run it. Simple as that.

Stu. Thanks for the program. It is really sharp.
I have started to use it in my Honors Chem class. Question is: how do I get (copy) my jeopary game which I created on my home computer to the computer that I use it at school. I tried to simply put it on a USB drive and it told me that the Target could not handle the file. Would love to create at home and then simply bring it into the school to use. Thanks again

“Target Could Not Handle the File” is not a real message, so I have no idea what’s causing your problem. basically, you just need to copy the whole QuizBoxes older from your PC to your USB stick. Just the same was as you copy anything to the USB stick.

Hi Christian. Glad you like it. Originally, from 1998 through to 2009, this game was called Stu’s Double Jeopardy! Then my good friends at Sony took notice of the 200,000+ users and said “no more”. So it was redeveloped and repackaged. The old product no longer exists and QuizBoxes is here to stay. 🙂

One other question please. Is there a way to make the text of the questions appear to the far right of the game board so that I can use a jpg file larger than 400×400. Thank you again. My students and I love this.

29 04 2011
paralleldivergence

When you have a wider image, you can fiddle with the text of the question. If you type a . at the front of the question, you can then insert spaces before your question text. If the question goes over one line, you’ll need more spaces in between to “format” the text appropriately. I’ll be a trial and error thing until you make it look the way you want it on the question window.

Hi Larry. No need to run as administrator unless you don’t otherwise have write access to the path you want to install to. The QuizBoxesSetup.exe file that you downloaded should be 19.2MB in size. Is it? If not, re-download it.

how do I get full screen

23 08 2011
Christian Farley

Hello- I have enabled allowing mp3 audio in one of my quizzes but cannot seem to get them to appear in the game when I go ahead and play. Images work fine. No audio though. Can you have mp3 clips edited using audacity software appear in let’s say 10 of the 31 questions??? any help appreciated. Thank you, Chris

23 08 2011
paralleldivergence

Hi Christian. MP3s work exactly the same way as images. You just need to have the appropriately named MP3 file in the same folder as the quiz file and the other images files. You can have any number of MP3 files, but they MUST be named exactly as specified for each question. Also, make sure you have not doubled up on the file extension – .mp3.mp3. Download one of the audio quizzes to see how audio works.

Is anyone else experiencing “sticking” screens and stuck-open dialog boxes when attempting to run this on Windows 7 64-bit systems? I had just designed 4 levels of games for tutor traning and classroom use when my college decided to replace their old XP boxes with new 64-bit W7. Now I can’t even get past the game selection screen–the browser-selection window won’t close, and I have to shut the game down via the task manager to be able to do anything. Any ideas / advice?

Hi Jeff. I’m unsure what’s causing your problem. I am running on Windows 7 – both Ultimate and Enterprise versions, 64-bit and am having no issues.

I just downloaded ‘quizboxes’ on Windows 7, home premium. The application downloads, however when I run the aplocation from the shortcut located on my desktop the application opens and i can open a quiz but when I click on a question the whole application closes.

Hi Craig. I am running it on Win 7 fine. When you click on a question, the program tries to play a sound called “select.mp3” from the sounds folder. All I can suggest is to test it on another computer before trying to resolve it on yours.

Ms Johnson, it’s probably the case that your projector screen is running at 800×600 resolution. You need to increase the display resolution on your computer to 1024×768 and hope that your projector is not too old to deal with that.

22 10 2011

Thank you very much, I will give it a try and let you know how it goes.

Have you tried installing the game on a jump drive and running it from there> It works fine, takes up little space, and that seemed to fix all of my W7 compatibility issues (hanging, the need for forced shutdowns, sticking, etc.)

Thanks for a great game, much fun has been had 🙂 I was just wandering if there is any way to have electronic buzzers incorporated into the game so the team/player who buzzes first gets to answer. I have watched a Australian inter school competition video on here and the competing teams ‘buzzed in’ how did the do this

29 04 2012
paralleldivergence

Hi Peter, here is how those buzzers were setup – http://studentresponsenetwork.com/2009/11/29/playing-quizboxes-with-srn-clients-as-buzzers/ – for up to 5 users, it’s completely free!

Thanks for the reply, I actually have Audience response keypads (Enjoy RF217) is there anyway these will work with Stu’s Quiz Boxes ?

Thanks

I have no idea how they work. The SRN buzzer works by popping up the buzzer message over the top of the QuizBoxes game – it’s actually independent of QuizBoxes. If you can do the same thing with your buzzers, then you should be able to use them.

I truly Love this Trainin tool. I have one question. Is it possible to change from 6 catagories to 4? For my purpose the 6 catagory game runs to long for the timeframe that I have to play it in. 4 catagories would work out perfect. Is this possible ( I would like the board to actuall show only 4 catagories, not just leave to blank)

Hi Chris. Glad you like it. Yes it is possible to play just 4 categories, you can even bring it down to 2 categories if you like. You just set the game size at the very start on the first choices screen. Read more about it here: http://quizboxes.com/2008/08/16/jeopardy-v31-introducing-the-quickie/ – (ignore that it says Jeopardy).

Hi Stu,
Thanks for such a great game. I am thinking of using this during one of our fun-times at work, I am sure everyone would be thrilled by it. Thanks also for the buzzer.
How do I reduce the display of the game so that I can see the buzzer? The quiz boxes take up the whole screen and even though at first the buzzer appears on it, once I click the quiz boxes, the buzzer is no longer visible. I want to be able to see the buzzer at all times.
Thanks once again.

23 05 2012

Assuming you are using the Student Response Network buzzer, just make sure you click on the buzzer when it appears to acknowledge it – don’t click on the QuizBoxes window to send the buzzer to the back.

Thanks for the response, I am actually using the SRN buzzer. Will be sure not to click the quizboxes window next time.

Hello, I just installed your fantastic program on my home computer and I want to create a game for the young adult group to play at our church. If I download this program on the church computer is there a simple way that I can play the game I created at home on the church computer or do I have to create the game on the church computer????? Wow, I don’t know if I could have made that less confusing. I want to be able to create a game file from my home and then just upload it onto the computer at church.

30 05 2012

Hi Andra. Install the program at home and create your quiz. Then copy the entire QuizBoxes folder to a USB stick and take that stick to church and copy that folder to the church PC. It’ll run just fine.

You can even run it from the USB stick if you don’t want it on the PC, the program is portable. Hope it goes over well.

8 11 2013
paralleldivergence

Hi John. This error usually means that the file you have in the folder while named as a .jpg file, is not an actual jpg file. Where did you get it? How did you save it? Check the format. Replace it with one of the jpgs in the pre-supplied audio-visual quiz and see if that works. If it does, it’s your image file that’s wrong.

18 11 2013
Chris

Hi John and ParallelD, I’m getting the same error message, “Run time error 6 – overflow”. All the files I’m using are .jpg files. I get this message even when I try to play the Audio-Visual quiz that comes supplied with the download. I’ve cleaned and defragged my registry as well and still no joy. Maybe there is some bug in the updated version?

Hi Mimi, I had the same problem last year. I have Windows 7 enterprise version. I posted a question on it, and stu even took a look at the quiz I created. It worked for him, but not for me. I’m still not able to use it.

18 08 2014

I use it on Win 7 Enterprise very regularly, so it’s not that. Must be something your PC is running in the background.

Can I change the font size for the questions? I have some longer questions that get cut off by the program.

2 09 2014

Sorry, no. You will need to shorten your questions. They are too long.

31 10 2014
Matthew Wilson

If I might make a suggestion for future versions: it would be nice to be able to give partial credit for higher-value questions, where perhaps you ask a compund question (e.g. “Name this song and who wrote it and where it’s from”) and the contestants do get one part of it right. I’m thinking pen-and-paper scoring Is my friend here 🙂 . It would also be nice to customise the size of the quiz beyond the presets.

Great job, though. I’d actually got a long way through programming a game from scratch before I found this.

Hello: When I attempt to open a quiz box game question on the game board, a SMART Notebook dialog box opens up, as if my desktop is trying to search for a SMART file. This happens every time I go to choose a topic. New problem, as STU’s has worked fine before. Any ideas what I can do to correct this? Thank you.

18 11 2014
paralleldivergence

Hi Christian,

That’s a really weird one. We have people with SMART Notebook and QuizBoxes on the same PC quite happily. When you say it happens when you “choose a topic”, do you mean when you click any of the QuizBoxes to display a question? What does the dialogue box actually prompt for? Is Notbook running in the background? Or just Smart Tools? If Notebook is running, you might want to shut it down.

18 11 2014
Chris Farley

Interesting thing happened. Since writing you initially, I let the dialogbox run its course. It took about 10 seconds to cycle through. Now the game operates fine. That was weird but thank you for your quick reply. I love your game, and so do my history students. Thank you!

25 11 2014

When creating a “quick game” is it possible to choose from among specific categories I’ve already used to make a completed and saved full game? I’d like to be able to pare down full games with shorter games among the 30 questions.

25 11 2014
paralleldivergence

Hi Christian. Have a read of this article – http://quizboxes.com/2008/08/16/jeopardy-v31-introducing-the-quickie/ – basically, shorter games hide specific columns (or categories), so if you only want to use certain categories of questions, they need to be in the appropriate spot in the quiz file. If you haven’t yet opened one of your quiz files in Notepad, it’s time to do so because that way, you’ll be able to cut/paste entire categories around more easily than using the built-in editor.

25 11 2014
Christian Farley

Are you referring to Notepad, i.e. the program installed on most desktops? How do I open in Notepad in saved in another format? Right-click the file and choose another source to open? Thanks for any and all assistance.

25 11 2014
Christian Farley

Thank you.

25 11 2014

Hi Christian, The Quizboxes quiz file is a TXT file. Just go to the folder where your quizzes are in My Computer then double-click the file and it will automatically open in Notepad.

25 11 2014

From there, just cut and paste the questions I want in the quick game to the appropriate categories??

Hi Paralleldivergence, thank you so much for your response but unfortunately it did not work. I even tested it on another PC i have (with the exact same image on it but again same problem of no sound at all when using the program). I am wondering if it is because I have a 32bit operating system (x64 Processor) computer and am running windows 8.1 Enterprise Edition? I also got the below error message when following your instructions for the Windows 8 assistance exe as you instructed from the Downloads page – ‘error code 76 encountered, the Windows 8 64bit Libraries Setup program will now close’? again any help would be so greatly appreciated, absolutely loved this program & creating my own quizzes with my students so much before I updated to 8.1.

15 03 2015

Why are you running the crippled 32-bit Windows on a PC capable of running 64-bit? We haven’t supplied libraries for 32-bit, that’s why it’s not working.

18 03 2015
gregory

I work at a school & that is the machine they give us (we don’t get any say in it unfortunately…) is there any chance you will be releasing the libraries for 32bit? i’m more than happy to wait as long as it takes & appreciate your respone again, ta

18 03 2015

No guarantees. I have no Win 8 32-bit PC to test this on. You’ll need to be logged on as a local admin, then download http:/stuhasic.com/eduweb/StuLibFix.exe to your desktop, then right-click it and choose Run As Administrator. It runs silently to install the libraries. Then test QuizBoxes again.

25 03 2015

Stu Quiz box translation to Polish and Lithuanian languages

Hello dear Stu,

I found your Stu quiz boxes so interesting and compelling program for education.

I am last year student of Lithuanian university of educational Sciences and I am working at school and using your quiz box program.

I found that for pupils it would be better to learn if we will be having version in our native language because the meniu is in english.

I can offer and would like to translate your program to Lithuanian and Polish languages. Can I add additional file or create new language file for meniu?
Will be waiting for your reply.

Best regards,

I created 3 quizzes that worked perfectly from my home computer last night. I get to work and now NONE of them work without 1. I am pretty sure that you’re tired of hearing the “runtime error 6 overflow” but i just ca’t find myself to the cause of the problem. i even used the given “Audio Visual Quiz”… i am using window 7, 64bit, Service pack 1(just changed to English language pack because i thought the different language pack might’ve triggered the error

made a discover by trying few things out.
the picture and the audio function doesn’t work when the computer system language is in foreign language (not the display language) trying to have picture or audio in the Quiz will tiger overflow error 6! HOWEVER you can create quiz in foreign language by having foreign system language. in example, i was able to create quiz in Korean without computer making the Korean letter into question marks and without the quiz software crashing.

i am still disappointed that there is no way to make quiz in Korean with pictures&audios, but at least now i now what is causing the problem. (i am thinking that it must be something with ANSI encoding..)

i hope there will be an update for people like me who needs to teach students of foreign countries.

Thanks Stu’s Quixboxes

Not sure why you would be using 32-bit Windows 10 unless you have a really really old PC you updated from Win 7 32-bit. 32-bit is dead. As long as your PC hardware is OK, you should switch to 64-bit to enjoy the benefits – http://www.howtogeek.com/228042/how-to-switch-from-32-bit-windows-10-to-64-bit-windows-10/
